Lightweight Waterproof Children's Jacket

This jacket is engineered for active children requiring reliable weather protection without compromising mobility or comfort. Designed for daily use in variable conditions, it combines a fully seam-sealed waterproof barrier with a lightweight, breathable construction suitable for school commutes, outdoor play, and light recreational activities.

The outer shell utilizes a 2-layer laminate system where a hydrophilic polyurethane (PU) membrane is bonded to a recycled polyester face fabric. This membrane provides a hydrostatic head rating of 5,000 mm, effectively resisting light to moderate rain while allowing moisture vapor transmission to prevent internal condensation buildup during moderate exertion.

Face fabric density is 150 denier with a plain weave structure, offering abrasion resistance suitable for playground surfaces and frequent handling. A durable water repellent (DWR) finish is applied to the exterior, causing water to bead and roll off rather than absorb, maintaining breathability and reducing weight gain in wet conditions.

Seam integrity is achieved through thermal tape application over all stitched joints using a 20mm wide PU tape, eliminating needle-hole leakage points. This method ensures consistent waterproof performance across high-stress areas such as shoulders, sleeves, and hood attachments, where movement and stress concentrations are greatest.

The jacket features a three-panel adjustable hood with elastic binding and a laminated peak to shield the face without obstructing peripheral vision. Hood volume adjusts via hidden drawcords with cord locks positioned internally to prevent snagging, allowing compatibility with backpacks and headwear.

Ventilation is managed through underarm eyelets laser-cut into the shell and covered with hydrophobic mesh patches. These provide passive airflow to regulate microclimate during activity spikes without compromising waterproof integrity, as the mesh is treated to resist water penetration under low pressure.

Cuffs and hem utilize elasticated bindings with internal silicone grip strips to maintain position and prevent water ingress at the wrists and waist. The binding width is 25mm, calibrated to provide sufficient tension without restricting movement or causing discomfort during extended wear.

Front closure employs a coil zipper with a storm flap secured by touch-fastener tabs. The zipper teeth are nylon-coated for corrosion resistance, and the slider includes a chin guard to prevent irritation. The storm flap overlaps the zipper by 20mm and is sealed along its edges to prevent wind-driven rain penetration.

Reflective elements are integrated into the design using heat-transfer tape applied to the sleeves and rear yoke. These provide 360-degree visibility in low-light conditions, meeting the reflective performance requirements of EN 1150 for non-professional use, enhancing safety during dawn/dusk travel.

Interior lining consists of a brushed polyester mesh in the body and taffeta in the sleeves, reducing friction and aiding layering over base or mid-layers. The mesh promotes air circulation next to the skin, while the taffeta sleeve lining allows easy arm movement when wearing additional layers underneath.

Packability is addressed through a stowable design where the jacket can be folded into its own internal pocket, reducing volume to approximately 18 x 12 x 6 cm. This feature supports use as an emergency layer in school bags or daypacks without adding significant bulk.

Sizing follows standard children’s measurements with adjustable features to accommodate growth. The cut allows room for a lightweight fleece or long-sleeve base layer underneath without restricting movement. Length is designed to provide coverage at the hips while sitting or bending, reducing exposure during typical activities.

Care instructions recommend machine washing at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, avoiding fabric softeners which can degrade the DWR finish. Tumble drying on low heat reactivates the DWR treatment. Regular maintenance ensures sustained performance over multiple seasons of use.

The product is manufactured under controlled conditions with material traceability and batch testing for hydrostatic head and breathability. Quality control includes visual inspection for seam integrity, dimensional checks, and functional testing of zippers and adjustables. No PFCs are used in the DWR formulation, aligning with environmental regulations for children’s apparel.
